Presented by the Orange County Inland Empire Small Business Development Center Network (OCIE SBDC) in collaboration with the City of Placentia and the Placentia Chamber of CommerceLevel Up: Restaurant and Retail Edition is a program designed to empower food, beverage, and retail business owners with the tools to expand confidently.

Key Focus Areas:

This edition targets growth strategies specific to restaurant and retail businesses, including:

  1. Identifying New Revenue Streams
  2. Expanding into New Market Segments/Customer Bases
  3. Building and Strengthening Teams
  4. Acquiring New Equipment and Technology (POS systems, touchscreens, kitchen or store setup)
  5. Considering New or Additional Locations

Program Schedule:

Level Up – Restaurant & Retail Edition delivers a practical curriculum, with two in-person sessions and two Zoom sessions, maximizing learning and flexibility.

  • Week 1 (In-Person)Mapping Your Growth Plan

Every growth path has unique challenges. This session covers proven strategies for scaling, key pitfalls to avoid, and essential steps to activate a growth plan aligned with your vision. Are you ready to take your business to the next level?

  • Week 2 (Zoom): Financial Foundations for Expansion

Cash flow is the lifeblood of growth. This session will guide you in analyzing your P&L, developing financial projections, and stress-testing your cash flow to ensure you have the resources needed for sustainable growth. Equip yourself with the insights needed to invest confidently.

  • Week 3 (Zoom): Expanding Your Customer Base

Customer loyalty and growth are critical for both restaurants and retail. Learn how to enhance your marketing efforts, reach new customer segments, and build a strategy that attracts and retains customers, keeping them coming back.

  • Week 4 (In-Person)Building a High-Performing Team

Your team is your strongest asset. This session focuses on developing and leveraging your team’s strengths to support growth. By nurturing a high-performing workforce, you create a competitive edge that drives long-term success.

Level Up: Restaurant & Retail Edition

Mike Daniel is the network director of the Orange County Inland Empire SBDC Network, which assists aspiring entrepreneurs and current business owners throughout Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Mike was formerly the director of the SBDC office at Long Beach City College. As business owner and entrepreneur himself, he started his career as the owner of a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory location in Manhattan Beach and went on to open a second location in Long Beach in 2001. In 2007, Mike sold the Manhattan Beach store for an above-market offer then invested in several additional locations as a minority shareholder. Mike further expanded his candy empire with venture located in Shoreline Village in Long Beach called Sugar Daddies Sweet Shoppe, based on fill-it yourself candy options.

Mike has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from California State University, Fullerton.
