First Five Riverside — Train the Trainer

Thursdays | March 13, 20, & 27 | 1 – 2 p.m.

The Orange County Inland Empire SBDC is partnering with First Five Riverside to educate their staff on how to provide business resources and fundamentals to childcare providers. Staff members will learn the basics of business planning, building financial projections, P & L’s, marketing, and social media. Each session will be hands-on, so that you are prepared to better help providers in your region.

Week 1: The Basics of Starting a Business

  • Creating a business plan
  • Licenses and permits
  • Business entity types
  • Insurance for your childcare business

Week 2: Understanding Your Business Finances

  • Building a financial projection
  • Profit and Loss and Cash Flow statements for a childcare business
  • Taking payments and proper reporting
  • Available loans under $50,000 and the cost of those loans

Week 3: Building a Marketing Plan for Your Childcare Business

  • Understanding your marketing needs
  • Basics of a website
  • Social media and building local awareness
  • Building a digital presence online
  • Creating a content calendar

First Five Riverside — Train the Trainer

Mike Daniel is the network director of the Orange County Inland Empire SBDC Network, which assists aspiring entrepreneurs and current business owners throughout Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Mike was formerly the director of the SBDC office at Long Beach City College. As business owner and entrepreneur himself, he started his career as the owner of a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory location in Manhattan Beach and went on to open a second location in Long Beach in 2001. In 2007, Mike sold the Manhattan Beach store for an above-market offer then invested in several additional locations as a minority shareholder. Mike further expanded his candy empire with venture located in Shoreline Village in Long Beach called Sugar Daddies Sweet Shoppe, based on fill-it yourself candy options.

Mike has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from California State University, Fullerton.
