Feel and Look Great with Skin and Brow Haus

Fara, founder of Skin and Brow Haus, has spent over 20 years in the beauty industry with her start in makeup and coming full circle into permanent makeup artistry. With her deep love of making others feel and look great, Fara knew she wanted to continue giving others the gift of confidence and relaxation through her own small business.

In mid-December of 2021, Fara secured a physical location in San Clemente and was in the process of planning to open her small business. Although she had worked up to this point on her own, she realized she needed assistance in moving her business forward and opening up her location strategically. It was out of a need for help and not knowing what to do that Fara contacted the CSUF SBDC for assistance.

“I didn’t have anyone to turn to. Friends and family only know so much. Sometimes you really want a second, third, or even a fourth opinion. And then you kind of just have to rely on and trust someone.” recalled Fara.

After contacting the SBDC, Fara was paired up with Kathleen Swift, the best consultant to help her with her business needs. Kathleen provided her guidance and support in various aspects of her business, such as securing her licenses and permits, creating financial projections, budgeting, and determining goals and timelines to officially open her business.

Fara thought back on how the best part about working with Kathleen and the CSUF SBDC was “having real solutions and answers to my questions from someone that I trusted was an expert and had knowledgeable and experienced answers to my questions.”

After listening to her needs, Kathleen suggested to Fara to go through our Beauty Boss program to help her build out her business and learn more about the marketing aspects. Through the Beauty Boss program, Fara was also eligible to receive a $10,000 grant through the California Dream Fund. Upon completion of the program, Fara was able to secure grant funding to use towards rent and marketing expenses for her business.

“Fara’s determination and perseverance have gotten her to this point of her grand opening. Her genuine desire to help people feel and look better is the root of her motivation to succeed,” says SBDC business consultant Kathleen.

For the past few months, Kathleen and Fara have been able to work together to achieve the results Fara was looking for in opening her own small business. Her desire of wanting everyone to succeed has also led her to refer multiple new small business owners to the SBDC because she knows just “how scary it is to try to do it on your own and to try to figure it out.”

As new business owner Fara reflects on her journey, she recounts how she would not have been able to do this on her own. “The communication has been so easy and accessible. It’s been priceless for me to have you guys on my team and help me.”

Kathleen raves about how working with Fara for the past few months has been a pleasure, as “her hard work and compassion will fuel her success going forward.”

Fara officially opened the doors to the Skin and Brow Haus on Friday, May 6th. Even though Skin and Brow Haus’ doors are open now, Fara still remains eager to continue her relationship with the SBDC and use all the resources available to her.
